Dear Byron Society Members,
Mid summer greetings to all! As the 2008, no. 1, issue of the Byron
Journal becomes available, we're writing briefly to touch base and let you know, of needed changes in the Byron Society of America's dues structure. We also thought it would be helpful for you to know when the annual renewal notices will be issued until both the Society and the Journal publication schedule are in sync.
Several years ago, the London Byron Society, which holds the copyright to the Byron
Journal, contracted with Liverpool University Press for publication of the Journal.
At that time, the Journal moved from an annual to semi-annual publication. Liverpool also began the task of reviewing how it could price the Journal to meet growing expenses. This has meant increasing costs to BSA and eventually required full subsidies for both the active and student membership dues categories. Our board has considered this situation carefully for several years now and, with reluctance but necessity, a new annual dues schedule for the active and student categories has been determined to help meet the rising costs: $40 for active and $25 for student. All other dues categories remain the same.
During this period, Liverpool has been working to establish a regular publication schedule. By 2009, the Journal will be on track with April and December publication
dates, which will be helpful to BSA in establishing our own annual renewal schedules.
Our annual renewal for 2008 will be issued shortly by Robin Hammerman, the Society's Director of Membership and Academic Services, to those who have not already renewed.
The 2009 renewal will occur in February 2009; and the 2010 will be sent in November 2009. Thereafter, the Society's annual renewals will be issued in November.
It will be wonderful to have everything back on track! Thank you for your patience and your support of the Society. And, please let us know if you have any questions. Expect many exciting programs, book discounts, and member news coming your way in the fall. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your summer.
With gratitude,
