Conferences of Interest

Byronists at NASSR 2009
Byronists gathered May 21-24, 2009 for the 29th annual meeting of NASSR (North American Society for the Study of Romanticism) at Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club adjacent to Duke University. Among those from BSA participating in the conference on "Romanticism and Modernity" were BSA board members John Clubbe and Peter Manning and seminar leader Tilottama Rajan. BSA member participants also included: Dimitri Karkoulis, Nathaniel Leach, Arnold Markley, Justine McGhee, Tom Mole, and Jeanne Moskal. Four panels exclusively devoted to Byron took place: "Byron's Modernity," "Byron's Europe" (two sessions), and "Byronic Europe." This conference encouraged presentations that forged connections among British, German, and French national literatures and cultures, as well as European philosophical and aesthetic traditions flourishing during the Romantic period, leading up to it, and/or extending into the nineteenth century and beyond.

Looking Ahead: ICR 2009
The 17th annual conference of the International Conference on Romanticism (formerly the American Conference on Romanticism) takes place November 5-8, 2009 in New York City. BSA member Larry H.
